Call for Applications: Medical Anthropology Quarterly Book Reviews Editor
Medical Anthropology Quarterly invites applications for the position of Book Reviews Editor. This is a three-year appointment, starting in January 2020. The Book Reviews Editor is responsible for the intake and cataloging of all volumes received from publishers; for identifying books appropriate for the journal; for soliciting and editing reviews; and for working with MAQ’s managing editor on copy editing and production. Once reviews are published in an issue of MAQ, the reviews editor is responsible for posting open access versions of the reviews to the journal’s website (www.medantroquarterly.org). The Book Reviews Editor is also expected to work with the MAQ Digital Editor and the other members of the MAQ editorial team to help generate and curate content for the MAQ blogs, “Second Spear” and “Critical Care.” Finally, the Book Reviews Editor is expected to attend MAQ editorial board meetings, held at the American Anthropological Association Annual meeting.

The subject heading of your application email should read “MAQ Book Reviews Editor Application.” The letter should describe both your reasons for applying and outline your qualifications. Minimum qualifications for the position include a Ph.D. in anthropology or a closely related field, evidence of active research and peer-reviewed publications in medical anthropology, and a demonstrated knowledge of the state of the field. Since MAQ does not accept unsolicited reviews, the reviews editor must show an ability able to identify and communicate with potential reviewers across the breadth of the discipline and to provide effective feedback to authors and fellow editors.
