Scott Stonington’s The Spirit Ambulance: Choreographing the End of Life in Thailand

At the 2021 AAA meetings, the Society for Medical Anthropology Awarded the New Millennium Book Award to Scott Stonington, for his 2020 monograph, The Spirit Ambulance: Choreographing the End of Life in Thailand. This award, given every two years, recognizes “the author whose work is judged to be the most significant and potentially influential contribution to medical anthropology.”  Stonginton’s book was selected as the co-winner of the 2021 prize, along with Salih Can Açiksöz’s Sacrificial Limbs: Masculinity, Disability, and Political Violence in Turkey.
